Pioneers in Visual Effects and Computer Graphics

The Biography of the Pixel

Since 1966, Dr. Greenberg has been researching and teaching in the field of computer graphics and utilizing these techniques as they may be applied to a variety of disciplines. He has taught courses in computer graphics in Computer Science, computer-aided design in Engineering and Architecture, computer animation in Art, and technology strategy in the Business School.

Working with the General Electric Visual Simulation Laboratory, he produced a sophisticated computer graphics movie, "Cornell in Perspective" as early as 1971, and is an author of hundreds of articles on computer graphics.

His current research has been focused on physically accurate rendering algorithms, which are perceptually indistinguishable from real world scenes and thus appropriate for VR/AR. All of this research occurs at Cornell’s Program of Computer Graphics.

He is proudest of his students, many of whom are now faculty at the best universities in the United States, and those who started such well-known companies as Pixar and Autodesk to name a few. Fourteen of his students have now won Hollywood’s technical Oscars. This past year, hundreds of industry leaders, academics, and former students gathered in San Francisco to celebrate his teaching legacy.
